Best Friends Animal Society's lifesaving work began with the opening of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in southern Utah in 1984. From there, the work to save the lives of homeless pets spread across the country and has continued to expand. Currently, Best Friends operates pet adoption centers, spay/neuter clinics and no-kill initiatives in Los Angeles, New York City and Salt Lake City, as well as a No More Homeless Pets Network of animal rescue groups in every corner of the nation.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is the largest sanctuary for companion animals in the nation. Located in the red rock canyons of southern Utah, it is a home-between-homes for dogs, cats, bunnies, birds, pigs, horses and other animals, including those in need of lifelong care. The Sanctuary is a haven to around 1,700 animals on any given day and is a healing oasis like none other. Visitors are welcome to take tours, sign up to volunteer with the animals and, of course, adopt a pet. In addition, the Sanctuary welcomes overnight visitors with reservations, and hosts many educational workshops, including animal care and rescue workshops. If you don't have plans to visit us anytime soon, you can still adopt from us as we transport eligible pets to all 50 states and Canada.
